We’re Looking Ahead at the Shingletown Library

As 2018 gets started, Library staff members are off and running planning exciting events for all to enjoy. The library’s Children’s Summer Reading Program with Miss Midnight, will begin in June to be held on Tuesday of each week. Stories and crafts with trained reading dog, Miss Midnight, and her handler, Shari Meier, have been a delight to the community’s children for several years now. The summer program encourages children to pass some of their hot summertime hours with a good book, and earn cool prizes! On the final day of the program there will be a party and the grand prizes for reading accomplishment will be awarded. Don’t let your kids miss out on this program! Sign-ups begin on June 8th.

Please join us on June 22nd and 23rd from 10 am to 4 pm for our annual Book and Vendor Fair. On Friday, June 22nd, you will also be able to beat the Saturday rush to get your pick of the books! You will have your choice of a wide variety of reading material. Mass paperbacks will cost only $1/bag full and extra bags will only cost $.50/bag. Hard-covered books can be purchased for $1/book. Soft-covered books will be $.50 each. Now where else can you buy great books to read for these super prices. On June 23rd you’ll be able to shop to music provided by great musicians from the Down Home String Band and the Senior Moments Band, and possibly some younger Rising Stars, as well. There will also be homemade crafts sold by local vendors, and, if you get hungry while listening to music and shopping, the Shingletown Lions Club will be serving their famous hotdogs and drinks. You will enjoy a day of fun with friends and neighbors on the beautiful library grounds.

As you know, last year we held a terrific fun event called Grapevines and Beer Steins. It was so well received that we will hold it again this year on July 14, 2018 from 6 pm to 9 pm. Come and enjoy the warm summer evening while tasting the local wines and beers and sampling great foods. Shop the great bargains at the silent auction, and listen, or dance, to the music of the Chris Lauer Band. Tickets for this event will go on sale on June 1st at the Library, Majka Real Estate, and Shingletown Thrift and Gift for $25.00 each. Do save the date.

The Shingletown Library continues to improve and add programs to benefit our mountain communities. A program many people are surprised to hear about is our Genealogy tutoring and assistance program, offered by one of our volunteers willing to share her knowledge and resources with community members in one-on-one sessions. Ask for an appointment.

We take pride in providing the Library’s park-like setting for residents and travelers alike. We thank all those who support our efforts to keep our doors open and make our Library a great asset to Shingletown. We hope you all will take advantage of this jewel of the community, and will help support it as well. Hope to see you at the Library!
